Ahhhh the good ole days…
My dad sent me this picture this weekend and it brought a flood of memories back to my brain. This black and white photo, circa 1980, is from the San Joaquin County Fair. When I was a little girl, my dad spent many Summer nights at the fair protecting and providing security for artists who would come through to perform when he was a Stockton Police Department motor officer.
I remember those days so well because I got to see some really cool concerts (Ricky Nelson was a highlight and a story I’ll tell you later in another blog) and experience things from a different perspective than most folks who were there. This photo has Johnny Lee, famous for ‘Lookin for Love”, and “Ramblin Rose”. His music was featured in Urban Cowboy with John Travolta and that catapulted his fame. The little fella in the middle is a kid named Danny Cooksey who was in Different Strokes AND Terminator 2 (and is now 42) who was also an accomplished country singer when he was young.
Looking at the picture, to the right of Danny, is a guy I look a lot like hahaha! Yep, that is the famous “Doc”, AKA, my dad. All of those men standing there (I can name them all but for their sake, I’ll keep those private) were an extended family for my dad, and all of them acted as devoted uncles to me. I was VERY safe when I was around this band of brothers. They were a motley crew, that loved their jobs, their families, and their city. Much of my pride in being a native Stocktonian, comes from this group of dedicated men (and women) who kept our city safe during an event that celebrated this great place.
Stockton PD motors…..I love you.
