The last thing I need is to be using vocabulary that makes me sound like a senior citizen.  At the weekend I said “stoked” in front of my friend’s teenage daughter and she told me saying that word makes be sound old.

WHAT?!

Stoked is an awesome word…or is it?  Maybe “awesome” dated now too.  DAG NABBIT!  That is an actual old people word, by the way.

Hearing this made me feel like I’m becoming my father.  I still wag my head every time he refers to jeans as dungarees!  So two things:

1) I need to cut Dad some slack for saying things like that

2) I need to stay on top of my vocabulary so I can avoid sounding older than I am.

What are words that make you sound old if you when you use them?  Do you still use them?  What word do you feel needs to be brought back?
