Female students attending prom at a Detroit area school have been told if they are in violation of the school’s dress code policy – they will be given a clothing
alternative. Not wanting rob these young ladies of memories created by this momentous occasion by sending them home, School Officials are offering the girls
what they call a “Modesty Poncho“.
Crisis averted.
Or is it? The girls feel this is a violation of their self expression. But rules are rules, I guess.
I know what these girls are going through…kind of. My freshman year in high school – I got into some trouble for wearing a t-shirt that had the Cheetos mascot, Chester Cheetah, on it. The issue was the word Cowabunga. The principal didn’t know what language it was or what it meant. I wasn’t given the “Modesty Poncho” option – I was sent straight home to change.
For the record “Cowabunga” originated as a greeting by Chief Thunderthud on the 50’s television series “
The Howdy Doody Show”. The term was later adopted by surfers in the 60’s then used by Bart Simpson and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
So what did you wear that got you into trouble? What was it that violated a dress code? What happened?
