Is Chivalry Dead?

At the weekend – a friend told us about a flat tire she had.  She decided to change it herself rather than wait for roadside assistance…Which is cool – you go girl.  She

said that 3 different guys pulled up behind her to see if she needed help – and she waived all of three of them off.  Why?  She said:

The world is too dangerous.

I understand her point of view but a part of me is disheartened by this.   Due to the social climate created by the Harvey Weinsteins of the world – if a man wants to help he’s thought to have an ulterior motive. The #MeToo and #TimesUp Movements have made it very difficult for a guy to be a gentleman. Are guys supposed to hold the door for a woman anymore?  Should you give up your seat for a woman on a train or bus?

I know – I know – with smart phones and roadside assistance, you don’t necessarily need a stranger’s help anymore. But for the sake of argument…which is it?  Should a guy who was taught to assist someone in distress try to help?  Or should it be “No thanks, I don’t know you – good luck”?
