Reach for the “Off”! The San Joaquin County Mosquito & Vector Control District issued a news release on Friday stating that mosquitoes samples found in zip codes 95366 and 95337 tested positive for West Nile Virus which can cause you and your children harm. The district suggests taking these precaution to reduce your risk of contracting West Nile Virus and other mosquito transmitted diseases:
1. Eliminate all sources of standing water on your property that can support
mosquito breeding.
2. Apply insect repellent containing the active ingredient DEET or Picaridin when
outdoors, according to label instructions.
3. Avoid spending time outside when mosquitoes are most active, at dawn and dusk,
and especially for the first two hours after sunset.
4. When outdoors, wear long pants, long-sleeved shirts and other protective clothing.
5. Exclude mosquitoes from your home with tight fitting screens on doors and
windows.
6. Contact your veterinarian for information on vaccinating equine against WNV.
7. Report significant mosquito infestations to San Joaquin County Mosquito &
Vector Control District at www.sjmosquito.org (209) 982-4675, 1-800-300-4675.
