Over the weekend I was in Southern California broadcasting live from Disney’s California Adventure. On Saturday my family enjoyed some of the other attractions in the L.A. area. My wife and I love searching for mid-century modern furniture and accessories and so we stopped by a promising thrift store on Fairfax Ave.
There is not a lot of parking nearby except for about 10 tandem parking spots behind the store. Once we were done shopping we headed back to our SUV to see it was blocked by a car behind us in the tandem spot… a late model Bentley. Obviously we had great instincts about finding treasures at this particular thrift store if a man in a Bentley with the California plate “1 in 110” was shopping there too. He actually said it was only 1 of 20 in the United States and he owned another Bentley that was the only one of its kind on our side of the pond.
I didn’t recognize the man or get his name but it’s obvious he was loaded to own 2 of these beauties but you would never have known by looking at him as he didn’t dress like he could buy everything I owned 100 times over. He was very nice and personable though and I asked him if it made him nervous to park his prized possession in such tight quarters to which he acknowledge that it does but he said “you can’t keep it garaged all the time”. He admitted that he usually takes Uber wherever he goes but when he does unleash one of the Bentley’s that he’s going out for a drive and not a short trip for groceries.
